Hiring Requirements
Minimum Age?
Minimum experience? (Tractor/ Trailer/ OTR)
Will you consider local experience?
Moving violations? (Maximum in 3 year period)
Will you take a major moving violation in the last 3 years (i.e. 15 mph +) and if so what is the maximum number?
License Suspensions?
DOT Preventable Accidents- How many will you accept in the last 3 years?
Incidents? (Maximum in 3 year period)
Will you hire a driver discharged from last job for safety reasons? Is there a certain amount of time that needs to pass afterwards?
Do you use a ticket/accident combo? (i.e. max # of the two in combination from last 3 years – automatic DQ)?
Do you have a maximum number of allowable jobs in the last 3 years and if so what is the number?
Do you have a policy against unemployment even if it is accounted for (i.e. 6 months maximum in last 3 years)?
Felony Convictions: How old must they be?
Felony Convictions: Do you go off of the conviction date or does everything (jail time, probation, etc) need to be outside of said time frame?
Felony Convictions: What are the “silver bullets” (automatic DQ’s i.e. violent, sexual, or drug related)?
Misdemeanors: How old do they need to be?
Misdemeanors: Are there any automatic DQ’s (i.e. drug related)?
DUI/DWI: What is the max number you will take and what are the time frames do they need to fall outside of (i.e. 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, etc)?
In addition to the urinalysis do you do a hair follicle test?
Is Hazmat required?
If hazmat is required, do you give a grace period to driver to obtain it (i.e. 90 days)? Also, will you reimburse driver for getting it?
Any other endorsement required (i.e. Tankers, doubles, triples, etc)?
Do you require the long form physical up front?
Do you have a sleep apnea test as part of your company physical?
Are any major moving violations automatic DQ’s (i.e. careless, reckless, etc)?
Other automatic DQ’s (i.e. truck abandonment, roll over, etc)?
Accommodate an automatic restriction?
